Born into the music.
Dino Bee comes from one of Hawaiʻi's most famous music families. His father, Tony Bee, was a ukulele virtuoso who played with Don Ho in the original Hano Ho Five, spent two years with the Sons of Hawaii, held stages at Duke Kahanamoku's and the Hawaiian Village Shell Bar, and carried the islands' sound to Japan at Expo '70.
His aunts were the Bee Sisters: Momi, Esther, and Primrose, who sang across Hawaiʻi and far beyond it. Aunty Momi received the Nā Hōkū Hanohano Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019. And over the whole family stood the family's beloved Aunty Genoa Keawe, the legendary falsetto voice of Hawaiian music.
Dino has been playing all his life. These songs, recorded with his son Jordan and released on the family's own label, Bee Ohana Music, are the first he has ever put on record.
The story behind the songs.
I Surrender began years ago as a love song. Later in life, Dino was saved by Jesus, and the song found its true home. He rededicated it to his children as a song of worship.
His mother, Elvera Bee, known to everyone as Stella, was the heartbeat of the family's faith, and she always wanted him to release this song. So the full song arrives on her birthday: July 28.
We can hear her now: "Woah babyyy, Jesus is blessing your socks off, boy!"
